THE BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE COAST OF
BRITISH COLUMBIA , CANADA
You arrive after a 40 minute ferry trip from Horseshoe Bay, with it’s breathtaking vistas of snow capped mountains
and majestic fjords to where the lower Sunshine Coast begins at Langdale.
As highway 101 meanders past dramatic stands of hemlock, douglas fir, cedar and arbutus trees.
Small towns and secluded beaches dot the 80 kilometre shoreline as you travel up the Coast
From the small fishing town of Gibsons [home of the long running TV series "The Beachcombers"]
to Earls Cove at its northern tip. From Gibsons with its waterfront walk and fishing pier a
short trip from the ferry takes you to the picturesque seaside town of Roberts Creek.
The Gumboot Nation is home to many world famous painters, sculptors, writers and other
numerous artists. In the Heart of the Creek itself is a post office, library, French
restaurant general store and the ever popular "Gumboot Garden Café". In the fall you can
watch the salmon spawn from a bridge near the sea. Back in the car you head up to Sechelt
town; a short 10 minute drive and home of the World famous Festival of the Written Arts.
Sechelt is a Coast Salish word that means ‘the land between the waters'.
Sechelt has a native gift shop, museum and a theatre as well as many fine restaurants.
A nice waterfront walk starts at Snickett Park heading east along the seawall
to some beautifully carved totem poles facing the ocean.
Sechelt Inlet is like an inland sea and has almost 100 miles of shore line as it branches into
Salmon Inlet and Narrows Inlet. Kayaking, swimming, hiking, boating and scuba diving
are popular summertime activities. Many unique and beautiful waterfront and view homes dot
the coastline, some of them boat access cottages with docks.
After a short 7 kilometre car ride you arrive in the Halfmoon Bay Secret Cove area.
This is the ideal jump off point for coastal cruising, fishing and other water sports.
This area is popular for well priced investment property, view lots and retirement homes.
Once past the Redrooffs area you enter Pender Harbour. This lovely part of the coast has
many enchanting coves and secluded beaches. Many small forested islands are easily
accessible by a pleasant canoe trip.
Pender Harbour area also has many lakes and camping spots. A great hike into the
Skookumchuck rapids will show you the power of the sea as millions of gallons
of water race through this narrow confine. Pick your tides for the best viewing times.
And ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE COAST.
